Lecy and Schmitz win best paper award
Jesse
Lecy, assistant professor of public administration and international affairs;
Hans Peter Schmitz, associate professor of political science; and Maxwell PhD
alumna Haley Swedlund, currently assistant professor at Radboud University
Nijmegen in the Netherlands, have received the 2012 Best Paper Award from the
International Society for Third-Sector Research (ISTR). The
paper, “Non-governmental and not-for-profit organizational effectiveness: a
modern synthesis,” explores the fragmentation of information regarding NGO/ NPO
effectiveness across disciplinary lines. The paper suggests that progress
in our understanding of NGO/NPO effectiveness requires enhanced efforts at
crossing disciplinary divides, adding empirical analyses, and increasing
attention to develop shared categories and methodologies. ISTR presents
this prestigious award biennially for an outstanding paper in the journal
“Voluntas” that contributes to the field of civil society, third sector,
nonprofit organizations, philanthropy and voluntarism. 09/19/14
