Maxwell students awarded foreign language fellowships

Maxwell LogoIti Maloney and Laurel Rodman, undergraduate students in international relations, have received Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships from SU’s National Resource Center for South Asia for an 8-week intensive summer program in India.  Rodman will study Hindi in Jaipur, Rajasthan, while Maloney will pursue the south Indian language of Tamil in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.  Three graduate students in Anthropology -- Steven Johnson, Lisa Ward, and Ross Freedenburg – will join Rodman in studying Hindi at the Jaipur program.

In addition, three IR undergraduate students -- Grace Kim, Shaki Kar and Iti Maloney -- have received FLAS awards for Hindi language study at SU during the coming academic year.  FLAS fellowships are aimed at helping to produce foreign language experts who can influence government, business, and academic communities.  For more on the fellowships, see http://www2.ed.gov/programs/iegpsflasf/brochure-flas.pdf
