Daniel McDowell, associate professor of political science, looks back and then looks ahead at government responses to the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic in his latest article, "Governments Acted Fast to Save the Economy. Now Too Many Have Pandemic Fatigue," published in World Politics Review. "An early review of those initial measures indicates that, so far, they have been quite successful at preventing deep and lasting economic damage," McDowell says. But, "the question of sustainability is now center stage. If policymakers, who moved swiftly and boldly when the pandemic first hit, want to prevent their initial responses from being in vain, they must fend off their own version of pandemic fatigue," he says.
