The National Science Foundation (NSF) has granted its fourth major award since 2011 to support the Qualitative Data Repository (QDR). The repository is hosted by the Center for Qualitative and Multi-Method Inquiry, which is affiliated with the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, a unit of Syracuse University's Maxwell School for Citizenship and Public Affairs. The initial award is for $505,730, and NSF expects to continue support in 2020 for $579,445, and in 2021 for $582,711. The award is expected to total $1,667,886.

The QDR's central mission is to curate, publish, and preserve digital data arising from qualitative and multi-method research in the social sciences. The Core Trust Seal-certified repository also develops and disseminates standards for managing, sharing, and reusing qualitative data, and pursuing research transparency.

Launched in 2014, QDR is co-directed by PI Colin Elman, professor of political science at the Maxwell School, and co-PI Diana Kapiszewski, associate professor of government at Georgetown University. Co-PIs Carole L. Palmer, professor in the University of Washington's Information School, and Nicholas Weber, assistant professor in the University of Washington's Information School, serve as QDR's technical directors. Co-PI Sebastian Karcher (Maxwell School) serves as QDR's associate director.
