Van Slyke to present at National Academy of Public Administration standing panel
Professor David Van Slyke, Louis A. Bantle
Chair in Business and Government Policy, will present at the National
Academy of Public Administration's standing panel on Executive Organization and
Management in Washington, DC, on September 19. A panel discussion will
focus on the failures of the U.S. Coast Guard's Deepwater Program. Van Slyke
recently co-authored a book on the program, Complex Contracting: Government Purchasing in the Wake
of the U.S. Coast Guard's Deepwater Program. The
book, which is co-authored with Trevor Brown and Matthew Potoski, and
won the 2014 American Society for Public Administration's Best Book Award,
explores the shortcomings of the 25-year, $24 billion U.S. Coast Guard contract
and the lessons that can be learned from it when executing complicated
contracting scenarios in the future. Complex
Contracting will serve as the basis for the panel
discussion. Brown will serve as a panelist alongside Van Slyke.
Allan Burman, who served as Administrator of OMB's Office of Federal
Procurement Policy during the George H.W. Bush administration, will moderate
the discussion. 09/16/14
