Pioneer Scouts of Rose Ravine

Trent A. Engbers (University of Southern Indiana)

August 2017

Summary:

The "Pioneer Scouts of Rose Ravine" is a girl development organization affiliated with the national scouting movement and is dedicated to “encouraging strength and integrity and making the world a better place one girl at a time.” The organization has a strong culture with professional commitment growing out of the experience of staff members as scouts. The organization is experiencing growing pains as the organization welcomes younger staff. The challenges that Rose Ravine faces are compounded by mounting economic pressures and personality conflicts within the organization. A national mandate to reduce the number of councils places the Rose Ravine affiliate in a precarious position. The case is designed to examine issues of organizational culture, strategy and direction, organizational change, conflict, public relations and human resources.
