Areas of Specialization

The Faculty in the Department of Sociology at Syracuse University focus on inequalities and intersectionalities linked to gender, race and ethnicity, class, sexualities, age and disability in these four core areas of study:

1. Globalization, Immigration, Transnational Studies

Faculty working in this area examine the global flows of people, ideas, and resources, and the cross-national connections these movements forge. With a special focus on issues such as education, religion, politics, ethnicity, labor, and aging they are active in both U.S.-based and international research in various world regions including China, India, the Caribbean, Europe, Canada, Middle East, and Latin America.
