From Sept. 21-25, two monks from the Namgyal Monastery Institute in Ithaca will construct a mandala, or sand painting, in the Eggers Commons on the SU campus. The public is welcome to come and watch the construction take place each day, Monday, Sept. 21 through Thursday, Sept. 24,  from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (lunch break between noon and 12:30), and Friday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  It will also be streamed live at http://www1.maxwell.syr.edu/mandala/.  On Friday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m., the mandala will be ritually destructed, with its auspicious sands released into Hookway Pond at Barry Park.  The mandala construction is sponsored by The College of Arts and Sciences and the South Asia Center in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
