"Building Civil Society from the Ground Up: Collective Action among the Forcibly Displaced"- Professor Mahoney's research proposes a theoretical structure to explain when we should be more likely to see political and non-political collective action in displacement camps and presents evidence from a comparative study of collective action among the forcibly displaced in Croatia, Thailand, Colombia, Uganda and Sri Lanka to test that theory. The findings of this study will illuminate where participatory policies are working, where they are not and why. According to Professor Mahoney, understanding what contextual factors undermine participatory approaches will help inform future NGO policy formation.
