“Güneşi Gördüm” (I Saw the Sun) (2009) Directed by Mahsun Kirmizigül, (115 minutes) In the Kurdish-majority southeast region of Turkey, the Altun family endures the 25-year separatist war. As violence intensifies, the family migrates to Istanbul and later to Norway with the help of smugglers. Amidst the hardships of refugee life, the son makes friends with a group of transvestites and forges a new identity, disgracing his family. Join us for this chance to reflect on Kurdish nationalism, Turkish-European migration, and changing Muslim identities within cosmopolitan centers.

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
