"Disability in China: Challenges and Opportunities." Chinese with disabilities have more opportunities for assistance than in the past, but they still face many challenges. What is the state of research and public awareness? What services are available to individuals, teachers, and families? How can foreigners work with Chinese colleagues to help the field of disability services to be effective, efficient, and culturally appropriate? Helen McCabe has studied education for children with autism since 1992, working to provide intervention services, family support, and teacher training. Currently with the Perkins School for the Blind, she is responsible for special education training projects in Yunnan, Sichuan, Shanxi, and other parts of China.
