"Disability in China: Challenges and Opportunities." Chinese with disabilities have more opportunities for assistance than in the past, but they still face many challenges. What is the state of research and public awareness? What services are available to individuals, teachers, and families? How can foreigners work with Chinese colleagues to help the field of disability services to be effective, efficient, and culturally appropriate? Helen McCabe has studied education for children with autism since 1992, working to provide intervention services, family support, and teacher training. Currently with the Perkins School for the Blind, she is responsible for special education training projects in Yunnan, Sichuan, Shanxi, and other parts of China. She holds a BA from Middlebury College, MA from Washington University in St. Louis, and PhD in special education and international/comparative education policy from Indiana University. We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
