South Asia Center Presents: Life in a Militarized Zone: Experiences from Indian-Occupied Kashmir Indian- Occupied Kashmir has been a site of contestation between the Indian government and those who want independent Kashmir for over 50 years. Armed conflict, curfews, and the constant presence of an estimated half a million Indian military and paramilitary forces has resulted in the insinuation of violence into Kashmiri people’s everyday lives.
