Wendy R. Sherman

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs

An address by Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy R. Sherman will highlight a timely conference on issues surrounding the nuclear negotiations with Iran.

The speech occurs at an extremely important time in the history of the Iranian nuclear issue. One year ago, a group of six international powers and Iran signed an interim agreement which removed some economic sanctions in return for short-term concessions by Iran on its uranium enrichment program and on international inspections of its nuclear facilities. On November 24, an agreed-upon deadline for follow-up negotiations to conclude a long-term agreement will pass, and as chief negotiator Wendy Sherman has been leading efforts at the U.S. State Department to resolve the final details and reach an agreement. In a speech likely to be observed carefully by experts and by the international public, Under Secretary Sherman will offer the perspective of the United States government on the development of these negotiations as the deadline approaches.

Presented by Maxwell’s Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs with support from the Carnegie Foundation of New York, the keynote event will be held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies at 5 pm, Thursday, October 23 and will be hosted by Dean James Steinberg.
