Brian Taylor is Director of the Center for European Studies and a Professor of Political Science in the SU Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. His expertise is in Russia, Post-Soviet Politics, and Comparative Politics. He is the author of State Building in Putin’s Russia: Policing and Coercion After Communism (Cambridge University Press, 2011) and Politics and the Russian Army: Civil-Military Relations, 1689-2000 (Cambridge University Press, 2003). Current projects include a book on Russia’s power ministries, especially law enforcement structures, and their role in state building in the post-Soviet period.
