Omar Cheta on Other People's Business: Rethinking Extraterritoriality in Late Ottoman Egypt 

Omar Cheta, Assistant Professor of Middle Eastern and Historical Studies, Bard College

Omar Cheta is Assistant Professor of Middle Eastern and Historical Studies at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. He received his B.A. in Economics from the American University in Cairo, his A.M. in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Chicago, and his Ph.D. in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and History from New York University. His current book project, provisionally titled "Empire, Law and Capitalism in the Modern Middle East," is a study of the creation of novel modes of market governance in late Ottoman Cairo and Istanbul.
