Lecturer, Fine Art, University of Cape Town

Nomusa Makhubu is an art historian and artist. Her current research focuses on African popular culture, photography, interventionism, performance art and socially engaged art. She lectures Art History and Visual Culture at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Fantastic is primarily an exhibition of photography, video and performance art. It is an on-going project that grew from an interest in video-film, Nollywood particularly. The project seeks to re-ignite critical thought about the concept of the ‘fantastic’ as one of the crucial ways of comprehending the surreal qualities of the present.

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
