Associate Professor Michael Ebner, an expert on the history of Italy and fascism, was featured in the HISTORY article "How Mussolini Seized Power in Italy—And Turned It Into a Fascist State."

Michael Ebner, associate professor of history and expert on the history of modern Europe, Italy and fascism, provides a comparison point for the Republicans' treatment of the Proud Boys.

"The term the regime used for land reclamation was ‘bonifica,’" says Michael Ebner, associate professor of history. "In English, it might be translated as ‘reclamation,’ as in land reclamation, but was also used more generally by the regime for reclaiming the race or the state."

Michael Ebner, associate professor and chair of the Department of History, was awarded funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Ebner will use the stipend to travel to Rome for two months to conduct research for an ongoing book project, “Mussolini’s Empire: How the Fascists Ruled in Africa.”
