Bio

Ekrem Başer is a postdoctoral scholar of political science, specializing in international relations and political economy. He studies trust and commitment problems, reputation and signaling dynamics, status concerns, and institutions with enforcement power. He follows these theoretical interests in substantive domains of both international conflict and international political economy, such as crisis escalation and foreign direct investment. He also works on these themes in domestic contexts, such as institutional formation and citizens' international status concerns. His research is published in International Studies Quarterly and Public Management Review.

Baser teaches courses on international political economy and statistical methods at the Maxwell School. Prior to joining Syracuse, he was a postdoc at New York University Abu Dhabi. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in December 2020.
