Ph.D. student Ayşe Durakoglu was awarded the 2022 Middle Eastern Studies Program Young Scholar Prize for her paper, “Food, National Identity and Culinary Tourism: The Case of Go Türkiye Tourism Platform in Turkey. In the paper she provides a fascinating analysis of the very recently launched national foods section of Turkey’s new tourism website, Go Türkiye, and how local and regional foods are used to produce, define and advertise a Turkish national cuisine, commensal tradition, terroir and identity for both global and Turkish publics.
