SoldierStrong donation to VA hospital to help veterans battling PTSD

A unique arrangement between Syracuse University, the Syracuse Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and SoldierStrong has resulted in the donation of a groundbreaking virtual reality system to treat veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress. SoldierStrong co-founder Chris Meek '92 B.A. (Econ/PSc)/'18 E.M.P.A. says "it is both clinically effective and it reduces the stigma that many service members feel about seeking treatment for their post-traumatic stress," of the effectiveness of virtual reality treatment.

Historian Junko Takeda named first Daicoff Faculty Scholar

Junko Takeda, an associate professor of history at Maxwell who focuses on European and global histories, has been named the inaugural Daicoff Faculty Scholar. The five-year appointment recognizes Takeda’s contributions as a teacher and mentor, productive researcher, and engaged citizen and leader at the school.

SU Trustee Christine Larsen funds local immigrant/refugee study

Beginning this summer, the Maxwell School’s Community Geography Program will conduct a comprehensive assessment of community needs and assets among immigrants and refugees in the Syracuse area. That study is being funded by a gift of more than $110,000 from Syracuse University trustee Christine Larsen, her husband Vincent Dopulos, and their daughters Katherine and Phoebe.

A new scholarship fund, honoring former history professor Otey Scruggs and his widow, Barbara, will reward current undergraduates for their accomplishments and promise at Syracuse University and the Maxwell School.
