On November 20, 2014, to celebrate its 90th year of existence, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs will stage an historic gala at the School’s new home in the nation’s capital, the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

At the gala, we will not only celebrate our longevity, but take stock of the contributions that Maxwell has and will continue to make to public service, civic engagement, and enlightened citizenship.  And, even more important, we will discuss the Maxwell School’s plans to carry its contributions into the future, with new and enhanced citizenship programming over the ten years that lead to Maxwell’s centennial in 2024.  We’re calling this the Tenth Decade Citizenship Project. Our special guest on November 20 will be Paul Volcker, former chair of the Federal Reserve, a long-time member of the Maxwell Advisory Board, and himself an extraordinary exemplar of the ideals for which Maxwell stands.  At the gala, Mr. Volcker will help us present the Maxwell School’s Spirit of Public Service award to an individual or organization that we feel embodies our values — an embodiment of caring and impact in the public sphere, responsible for transformative progress or innovation in the affairs of a community, nation, or the world. The program will conclude with the introduction of the Tenth Decade project.Co-chairing the gala will be former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala and former NASA Administrator and chancellor of Louisiana State University Sean O’Keefe.

This promises to be a special evening in the life of the Maxwell School and we urge our closest friends and supporters to join us for not only festivities but a chance to strengthen Maxwell as we near the end of our first century.
