Bio

Janire Pascual-Gonzalez is a research assistant professor in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, where she is also the managing director of the Dynamic Sustainability Lab at Syracuse University. Prior to joining Syracuse University, she was a postdoctoral scholar in the Office of Research, Economic Development and Engagement and the Center for Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering at East Carolina University.

Her research focuses on sustainable transitions and their unintended consequences, examining how new technologies, strategies and policies reshape the way sustainable goods are produced and consumed. Her research includes the study of the supply chains and stakeholders behind these transitions, from growers and buyers to the policy incentives, market conditions and economic forces that drive adoption. A central focus of her work is quantifying, analyzing and expanding the U.S. biobased economy across chemicals, energy, fuels and consumer products.

She leads research projects for government and industry clients, which had led to the publication of a series of reports for the U.S. government on the economic and employment impacts of emerging sustainable technologies as well as peer-reviewed journal articles.

Pascual-Gonzalez received a chemical engineering degree and a master's degree in chemical engineering and processes in 2011 from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili of Tarragona (Spain). In 2015, she received a Ph.D. in chemical, environmental and processes engineering at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili of Tarragona (Spain).
