Bio

Melissa Lopoo is a social science Ph.D. candidate specializing in sports sociology, policy and governance. She has collaborated as a consultant with prestigious organizations including the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), United States Tennis Association (USTA), PGA of America and USA Hockey.

Her research examines the intersection of athletics and entertainment, focusing on issues such as emotional labor, labor law, commercialization, professionalization and governance. She is particularly interested in the historical, social and cultural dimensions of sport, with a focus on the influence of football culture in the American South.
