Namgyal Monastery Institute: Mandala Event(2)

From Sept. 21-25, two monks from the Namgyal Monastery Institute in Ithaca will construct a mandala, or sand painting, in the Eggers Commons on the SU campus. The public is welcome to come and watch the construction take place each day, Monday, Sept. 21 through Thursday, Sept. 24,  from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (lunch break between noon and 12:30), and Friday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  It will also be streamed live at  On Friday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m., the mandala will be ritually destructed, with its auspicious sands released into Hookway Pond at Barry Park. The mandala construction is sponsored by The College of Arts and Sciences and the South Asia Center in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
