 “U.S. Immigrant Detention and Deportation: Deterring Migration or Increasing Human Insecurity in Ecuador?” In the post-9/11 context, immigrant detention and deportation is increasingly central to U.S. immigration policy, rationalized as necessary for protecting homeland security. Research in Ecuador, however, suggests that these practices actually increase human insecurity in countries of migrant origin in ways that can lead to additional migration.
