While at Maxwell, he focused on Muslim integration in the West, Muslim Cultures, Islamic Political Theory, issues around counterterrorism and US national security concerns, and East African Politics. He was a lecturer for the New York African Studies Association's 2009 Conference, a participant in the Maxwell School's EU Horn of Africa anti-piracy simulation, and a 2011 Delegate for the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC). Abdul-Qadir has begun to establish himself as an aspiring scholar in the field of Somali studies with particular focus on engagement as a means to deal with the various issues facing Somalia. Most recently, Abdul-Qadir has become interested in sustainability and public engagement as a form of conflict resolution.
