Peer to Peer Series “Terrorism and Counterterrorism: A Pakistani Perspective” with Abdul Jabbar, EMPA Candidate Pakistan is considered to be one of the frontline states siding with the USA in global war on terror. Initially, Pakistan was feeling reasonably comfortable in hunting down terrorists in collaboration with the USA. But gradually in the second half of last decade, the Al'Qaida - TTP nexus made Pakistan itself a victim of terrorism. • How did Pakistanis face the onslaught of terrorism in last decade? • Do the extremists possess "critical mass" in Pakistan to win over general societal support? • Is there any way out to break the vicious cycle of violence in Pakistan? • Is there any historical linkage to the present day militancy phenomenon in Pakistan? • Are there any perceptions stronger than realities regarding Pakistan's role in war on terror? Abdul Jabbar is a Fulbright scholar and EMPA candidate from Pakistan. He is a career police officer possessing twelve years command level policing experience in the turbulent areas of Punjab and KPK provinces of Pakistan. His particular interests are organizational change in public sector and public policy. Each student guest speaker will speak for about 20-30 minutes and then we will have a 20-30 minute discussion time. This event is open to all students.
