South Asia Center presents: Aarakshan (2011) The film is a socio-political drama based on the controversial policy of caste-based reservations in government jobs and educational institutions. The film opens in 2008 with Deepak Kumar (Saif Ali Khan) at an interview for the post of a teacher at an affluent school. The interviewers quickly turn him down when they discover his low caste background. His mentor, Dr. Prabhakar Anand (Amitabh Bachchan), consoles Deepak and offers him an interim job at STM College. However, the situation becomes complicated when Dr. Anand refuses to enroll the no-good nephew of State Minister Baburam. The film then takes a dramatic turn as politics, corruption, and greed threaten the educational system for those who do not come from privileged backgrounds.
