David Cortright is the Director of Policy Studies at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. In his extensive study entitled Gandhi and Beyond: Nonviolence for a New Political Age, (2009), he outlines multiple cases of practical successes of non-violent campaigns. For nonviolence to be rel¬evant it must be applicable to the most complex conflicts. Cortright will discuss its applicability in the Middle East, including his model for a “Free Israel and Palestine Campaign” to unite progressive Israelis, Palestinians and Americans “in a creative new civic coalition.”
