Global Governance Workshop

With the acceleration of interdependence from globalization, an arena of collective action—often branded by the term global governance—has emerged to address a wide spectrum of complex and transnational public policy issues. The management of global governance issues and the implementation of global public policy present a new sphere of public administration beyond the nation-state, and a new set of challenges for national and local governments. In this context, there is a need for greater attention to the important role of the leadership competency of public sector administrators effectively engaging in global concerns of finance, development, security, health, environment, migrations, science, and technology.

The aim of this workshop is to help shape public administration scholarship by bringing together 40 junior and senior scholars from different nations and disciplines (public administration, nonprofit organizations, political science, international relations, area studies, economics, law, and international business) to advance research relevant to the administration of collective action in the global governance arena.

Together we will discuss, critically engage, and bring together empirical insights related to the administration of formal and informal institutions, mechanisms, relationships, and processes between and among states, markets, citizens, and organizations that comprise the global governance landscape. In addition, we will build professional networks and develop ideas for research that will stimulate opportunities for future collaborative work.
