South Asia Center and the Department of Art and Music Histories Present: "Translating India in Image and Text: The Gentil Album of 1774" by Chanchal Dadlani

Dadlani’s presentation addresses artistic encounters between India and France in the early modern period. In particular, she interprets the GentilAlbum in relation to multiple systems of artistic and epistemological production, including the manuscript tradition of the Indo-Persian world and the broader network of European artists, scholars, and patrons active in eighteenth-century India.
