Issues of protectionism, currency manipulation, cyber security, and intellectual property theft dominate the headlines, even as U.S.-China trade and investment continue to expand. Two-way trade was nearly $500 billion in 2012, and many U.S. firms depend on China for new growth. This talk will discuss the controversies and competition that define this important bilateral relationship.
Charles Freeman is a vice president at Rock Creek Global Advisors, an international economic policy advisory firm. Previously he served as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) for China Affairs, where he was responsible for U.S. trade policy toward China. Most recently, he was Vice President for Global Public Policy and Government Affairs at PepsiCo, Inc.

We’re Turning 100!
To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”
Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
