Shang-Jin Wei, Asian Development Bank, Chief Economist

Poverty in Asia: A Deeper Look

Dr. Wei will discuss a new Asian Development Bank report on Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2014.  The report analyzes the major challenges of increasing food insecurity, rising inequality, and growing vulnerability in Asia. Despite the region’s rapid economic development, poverty will remain prevalent in Asia even beyond 2030, according to the report.

Dr. Wei is Chief Economist at the Asian Development Bank.  He has taught at Columbia and Harvard, and had held positions at the International Monetary Fund, the National Bureau of Economic Research, and the Brookings Institution.  His research covers international finance, trade, macroeconomics, and China.
