Sustainability in South Asia: Moving towards Decade of Action

The world is grappling with issues such as food, nutrition security, health inequities, climate change and  inequities in distribution of resources  that pose incredible challenges to sustainable development initiatives. The pandemic has further impacted our economies and societies especially in the South Asian region.  As we move towards a decade of action, these sustainable development challenges need to be met in the region while capitalizing on available opportunities that lie ahead before South Asian economies. This talk will focus upon the unique nature of the sustainability challenges at the global level with special focus on South Asia  Professor Narula will present the case of SDG 2 (End Hunger) to explain the vulnerability of communities towards the challenges of food security and nutrition and the need for innovative solutions backed with indigenous cultural knowledge as a means to achieve potential success. A regional framework based on technology, policy, capacity building and market based interventions  is proposed.
