Religious Worlds of Ukrainian Regions: A Thread of Hope

Join us for the next stop in our journey across Ukraine’s diverse regions—this time through the lens of faith, resilience, and hope. From the golden domes of Kyiv to the mosques of Crimea, from Hasidic pilgrimages in Podillia to the underground churches of Soviet-era Galicia, Ukraine’s religious landscape is as rich and varied as its geography.

This session will explore how Orthodox Christianity, Catholicism, Judaism, and Islam have shaped regional identities — and how faith has become a source of hope and resistance in times of crisis.

We’ll highlight the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church’s role in religious reformation, its survival under Soviet suppression, and the moral leadership shown by various faith communities during the Revolution of Dignity. Through stories, quotes, and interactive discussion, we’ll reflect on how religious communities continue to inspire unity and courage in Ukraine today.

This event is open to all. No Ukrainian language skills required. Come to learn, reflect, and connect.

Food and drink provided. This event will be hosted by Viktoriia-Anna Oliinyk (Fulbright and Hursky Graduate Scholar).

Support from the Syracuse University Ukrainian Club makes events like these possible. Join today!
