The war in Ukraine is transforming the character of warfare and raising questions about the future of military operations and the global security environment. This discussion examines what has changed on the battlefield, how and why these changes have occurred, and what they reveal about the changing nature of warfare.

Drawing from field research in Ukraine, the lecture proposes a taxonomy for analyzing emerging changes in military tactics, technology, and adaptation. This framework provides a means of understanding the dynamics of the war in Ukraine while assessing which lessons may have broader implications for the future of warfare globally.

Mykolaj Suchý is a research analyst at KI Insights, an analytical center backed by the Kyiv Independent, Ukraine’s fastest-growing English-language media outlet. He is a field researcher covering defense and military adaptation and is based full-time in Ukraine. Mykolaj holds a BA in History and Global Affairs from Yale University and was a scholar at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute.
