Resourcing Relationships for Repair and the Reparative

The Community Geography Lecture Series presents “Resourcing Relationships for Repair and the Reparative: Lessons learned from the Community-Soil-Air-Water learning ecosystem in Atlanta, Georgia.” This lecture, presented by Katherine Hankins of the University of Georgia, is sponsored by the Community Geography program. 

As communities fighting for environmental justice respond to escalating threats from climate change and prolonged accumulations of disproportionate environmental harms, new models of partnership and infrastructures for effecting change are necessary to disrupt well-worn patterns of marginalization and abandonment that have produced highly segregated, deeply unjust, and environmentally uneven urban areas. 

We argue that just transitions toward environmental justice require building infrastructures of care and repair.  We share lessons learned from the Community-Soil-Air-Water (CSAW) learning ecosystem working to transform the conduct of environmental science disciplines to achieve community-engaged and community-driven collaboration justice for fenceline communities in Atlanta.
