"Advancing the Study of Policy Design in Policy Process Research"

Call for Papers

We welcome submissions for the International Conference on Public Policy Design to be held at the University of Miami on February 23-25, 2023. We invite papers that advance theory and methods for studying policy design (defined either as policy formulation or policy content) within the realm of policy process research, particularly papers exploring antecedents and consequences of policy design. We are also interested in papers that connect policy design concepts and theories with policy process models, theories and frameworks in which policy design is implicitly or explicitly recognized but otherwise conceptually or empirically underattended.

We welcome papers that address a wide range of theories, methods and cases that will help to enhance scholarly understanding of policy design throughout the policy process. We are hoping to attract a diverse group of scholars who approach policy design from different perspectives. We strongly encourage submissions from women, international and minority scholars, broadly defined.

The International Conference on Public Policy Design is being co-sponsored by the University of Miami Department of Political Science, Syracuse University’s Center for Policy Design and Governance, the Policy Studies Journal, and Policy Theory & Practice. Select papers presented at the conference will be invited for a special issue on policy design to be published in the Policy Studies Journal (special issue editors: Cali Curley and Saba Siddiki).

Please submit a one-page abstract describing the intended content of your conference paper using the link below by September 2, 2022, if you are interested in participating in the conference. A timeline of conference deadlines is provided below.

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
