Britain and the world said a final goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II at a state funeral Monday that drew presidents and kings, princes and prime ministers—and crowds who massed along the streets of London to honor a monarch whose 70-year reign defined an age.

Alan Allport, professor of history, provided commentary on NewsNation's livestream of the funeral. He also discussed how King Charles III will transition into life as a monarch

Allport was interviewed for the WAER story, "Loss of Queen Elizabeth felt among Syracuse's Irish community." He says some Irish-Americans resent the crown because of its turbulent history with Ireland. But he says their anger is not personal to the queen.

"I think it’s been more about what the monarchy and the crown has represented," Allport says. "It clearly represents the British authority and the British state."
