Dutkowsky questions $10m grants to rehab aging downtowns in the NYT
July 27, 2017
Donald Dutkowsky, professor of economics, spoke with the New York Times for the piece: "For Oneonta’s Aging Downtown, a $10 Million Face-Lift." On the distribution of grants to other small cities in New York state, Dutkowsky noted: “I always regarded Glens Falls as a healthy small city and Westbury--I have stayed there, and I don’t remember seeing much of any empty storefronts."
“The thing to understand is this is window dressing,” he added. “This is kind of like touch-up paint for the downtown. But these are all cities that are O.K. economically relative to New York State standards, and so they don’t need a major heart transplant.” 7/27/17
