Emily Wiemers to Study challenges of caring for aging parents amid pandemic

Emily Wiemers, associate professor of public administration and international affairs, will serve as principal investigator for a two-year, federally funded study of the challenges to those caring for aging parents amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

NIH awards $1.95M to study state-level COVID policies, mental health

Shannon Monnat, associate professor of sociology and Lerner Chair for Public Health Promotion, is the principal investigator for a five-year research project that will examine the impacts of state COVID-19 mitigation policies on adult psychological health, drug overdose and suicide. The project is funded with $1.95 million from the National Institutes of Health.

Jackson wins Tenth Decade grant to study Black Americans, group threat

Jenn Jackson, assistant professor of political science, has been awarded $20,000 for their research project "Race, Risks, and Responses: Mapping Black Americans’ Response to Group Threat." The grant is part of a special call to Maxwell faculty offering Tenth Decade Project funding to support research and initiatives that confront systemic racial inequality.

NIA funds multi-university aging and policy center

A consortium of three Upstate New York universities has received a 5-year, $1.5-million grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) to fund the Center for Aging and Policy Studies (CAPS), headquartered at Syracuse University.

Heflin receives two grants from UKCPR

Colleen Heflin, professor of public administration and international affairs, was awarded funding for two projects by the University of Kentucky’s Center for Poverty Research. Heflin’s project seeks to understand the temporal dimensions of eligibility for the U.S. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), in light of increased participation in SNAP by older adults.
