The development process of the monastery system in the Gallo-Franconian area (up to the middle of the seventh century) is examined on the basis of the development of the discourse on chastity and sexuality. Particular attention is paid to the Latin desert fathers' texts, monastic rules and monastic hagiography. The most important result is that the integration of monasteries into ecclesiastical and political structures as places of sanctity and mediation that can be organized is also manifested in a redefinition of chastity and sexuality.
