Rachel holds a B.A. in political science and environment and sustainability from Syracuse University, and a M.M.A. from the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs at the University of Washington.

Her dissertation research is on the cultural history of Adirondack animals, but she also studies recreation, tourism, and artificial intelligence.
