The following graduate degree programs, offered by the Public Administration and International Affairs Department at the Maxwell School, are included in this partnership.

Professional Master's

*The executive master’s programs are designed for midcareer individuals and require a minimum of 7 years of professional work experience.

Application Process

Gettysburg students and alumni must formally apply through the Maxwell School graduate admission process following the policies and procedures at the time of application. A formal application currently consists of Syracuse University’s online application, personal statement/essay, résumé, two letters of recommendation and copies of all post-secondary transcripts. Current Gettysburg undergraduate students can apply any time after having completed a minimum of 23 credits towards their bachelor's degree. Gettysburg alumni can apply under this MOU at any time, provided the partnership is still active.

 

Student Benefits

  • The application fee will be waived for Gettysburg students and alumni.
  • *Gettysburg students and alumni who meet the criteria listed below will be guaranteed admission.
  • Gettysburg students and alumni who meet the criteria listed below will be awarded a partner scholarship in the amount of 40% of tuition charges for any of the "professional master's" programs or 30% for either of the "executive master's" programs. Highly qualified candidates may be eligible for a higher award.
  • Students who do not meet the stated criteria may still apply, but neither admission nor the partnership scholarship listed below will be guaranteed.

 

Guaranteed Admission Criteria

  • Cumulative GPA: The professional master's programs require a minimum of 3.75 out of 4.0 cumulative GPA (based on a minimum of 23 credits). The executive master's programs require a minimum of 3.25 cumulative GPA.
  • Work Experience and Co-/Extra-Curriculars: While the professional master's programs do not require any prior professional work experience, students are expected to have demonstrated their interest in the public service realm through the completion of an internship or other relevant co-curricular/volunteer experience(s). As noted above, the executive master's require at least 7 years of work experience.
  • Pre-Requisite Coursework: Students applying to the Master of Public Administration program are expected to have appropriate skills in the areas of analytical thinking and quantitative methods; this can be demonstrated through relevant coursework in mathematics and economics with grades of B+ or better OR by submission of official GREQ scores at the 75th percentile or higher.

*Maxwell, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to reject or revoke the acceptance of any student whose application or performance does not comply with the school's protocols or standards. Additionally, Maxwell reserves the right to limit the number of students enrolling via this MOU to no more than 10 per year.
