Yes, non-Syracuse University students are welcome to apply. However, you should consult your academic advisor to ensure that the credits you earn will be accepted by your home institution. In most cases, students can earn credit toward degrees in law and society, political science, international relations, or related fields by submitting a petition along with the program syllabi.
No, the program is conducted entirely in English. French fluency is not required. For those interested, a conversational “Survival French” course is available to help with daily life in Strasbourg.
You can see the full cost of the program by visiting the Study Abroad page for this program. Once there, click on the Cost tab.

- The Pre-Law in Europe program consists of two 3-credit courses:
- First Amendment (9–11 a.m., Monday–Thursday)
- Global Leaders in Law (2–4 p.m., Monday–Thursday)
- Students applying for the Council of Europe internship may only enroll in the First Amendment course, since the Global Leaders course conflicts with the internship schedule.
- Internships carry 3 credits. Combined with the First Amendment course, you will still earn a total of 6 credits.
- Internships are highly competitive and are located within a 15-minute walk of the SU Center in Strasbourg.
Important Note: Interns who only take the First Amendment course will attend hearings and meetings at the European Court of Human Rights but will not travel to The Hague for ICC and ICJ visits. These trips are part of the Global Leaders course.
Most students live with host families, which provides:
- a private room,
- breakfast daily and dinner five nights per week and;
- a chance to practice conversational French and immerse yourself in local culture.
A limited number of furnished studios are available at La Canopée Student Residence. Please note that the studio option is more expensive (see the Cost page).
