Bio
Garrett is majoring in international relations with a minor concentration in security studies. His research focuses on the intersections of climate security, asymmetric non-state recruitment mechanisms, and rebel governance. He has an academic background in quantitative and geospatial sciences, with expertise in remote sensing.
Before entering academia, he supported applied research and intelligence initiatives with the NASA Disasters Program, the World Bank Group’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
Since 2023, Garrett has worked as a researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), modeling dimensions of conflict with the Violence & Impacts Early Warning Systems project. Within this organization, he also collaborated on the Recording Explosive Munitions for the Analysis of War Crimes (REMWAR) project and the Peace Science Infrastructure (PSI) initiative.
In addition, Garrett maintains a collaborative role with the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and colleagues at PRIO, advancing work on academic publications and practitioner guides for atrocity prevention.
Garrett holds an M.Sc. in geospatial intelligence from the University of Maryland and B.A. in geographic information science.
