The Urban Institute, a center-left think tank, is projecting that a plan similar to what Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders are proposing (Medicare for All) would require $34 trillion in additional federal spending over its first decade in operation. Leonard Burman, Paul Volcker Chair in Behavioral Economics and Institute Fellow at the Urban Institute, says raising that much more tax revenue "is plausible in the sense that it is theoretically possible. But the revolution that would come along with it would get in the way." Burman was interviewed for the Atlantic article "The Eye-Popping Cost of Medicare for All." 10/18/19
