Fears of a return to full-blown war are growing as the United States and Iran are increasingly trading military strikes and the concern is it will escalate further.

“There's real danger here of an escalating conflict that could spill over into the broader Persian Gulf region with profound consequences, not just for the regional stability, but for the global economy,” says Osamah Khalil, chair of the International Relations Undergraduate Program.

“So there's no military solution here. What needs to happen is a good faith, negotiated settlement, but that's going to require that the White House really focus on that settlement and not on attempting to get concessions through force,” Khalil says.
