Lou Luba ‘93 J.D./M.P.A. was presented with the Oliver Ellsworth Prosecutor of the Year Award by the Connecticut Criminal Justice Educational and Charitable Association. The award is conferred annually to a Connecticut prosecutor who has “made exceptional contributions in the pursuit of justice.”

Yilin Hou, professor of public administration and international affairs, won a joint best research award from the Deng Ziji Foundation and the Journal of Trade and Finance Economics in China for a co-authored paper published in the journal. The paper provides evidence to advocate for a broad-base property tax in order to capture the capitalized value arising from improved public services.

The award, named after former Maxwell faculty member Rosemary O’Leary ‘88 Ph.D. (PA), recognizes the best article published in a public administration journal on the topic of women and public administration.

Deborah Pellow, professor of anthropology, who is a multidisciplinary scholar that specializes in urban studies, the anthropology of space and place, and feminism, with emphasis on West Africa, was conferred this year's prize. The prize memorializes William Wasserstrom, a noted English professor at Syracuse.

The exhibit titled "From Gods to Social Justice," was curated by Susan S. Wadley, Ford-Maxwell Professor of South Asian Studies. Wadley is retiring at the end of May and this is one of her final contributions to Maxwell's community engagement.

The scholarships were founded as a tribute to—and means of remembering—the 35 students who were killed in the Dec. 21, 1988, bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, and are funded through an endowment supported by gifts from alumni, friends, parents and corporations. 

Syracuse University held the third annual One University Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 12, 2019, in Hendricks Chapel, honoring dozens of members of the University community for their scholarship, teaching, academic achievement, leadership and service.

The team earned the accolade for its portrayal of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the National Model United Nations conference held April 13-19. Eighteen students majoring in international relations participated as delegates in this academic conference.

Hans Buechler, professor of anthropology was honored at the One University Awards ceremony, held on April 12.

The Senior Class Marshals exemplify what it means to be Orange as well-rounded leaders who have excelled academically and co-curricularly, all while engaging on campus and beyond through research, service and leadership opportunities. “I am most looking forward to forming new and strengthening existing connections throughout campus,” Rosenblum says.

Thomas M. Keck, professor of political science and the Michael O. Sawyer Chair of Constitutional Law and Politics at Maxwell, is a leading expert on the Supreme Court, American constitutional development, and the use of legal strategies by movements for social change. The Carnegie Fellows program is the most generous initiative of its kind, awarding researchers in the humanities and social sciences significant time to research, write, and publish.

Dina Eldawy, Crystal Letona, Danielle Schaf and Nathan Shearn were among the twelve seniors named as the 2019 Syracuse University Scholars, the highest undergraduate honor that the University bestows.

The highly competitive Public Intellectual Program Fellowship provides support for scholars who specialize in China and directly engage with public and policy communities. It has been awarded to Yingyi Ma, associate professor of sociology and director of Syracuse University’s Asian/Asian American Studies program.
