“As I traveled to military installations around the world, I saw in action the powerful symbolism of the American flag. It means something when people see it on the shoulders of U.S. troops in conflict zones and to allies who fight alongside them. “It's disappointing, but no surprise given his inexperience, that Secretary of Defense Hegseth remains singularly obsessed with issues surrounding race, sexual orientation, and gender identity. When I served in the Pentagon, our entire team was focused on the competition from, and power projection capabilities of, China,” says Alex Wagner, adjunct professor in Maxwell's Washington programs.
